Jane’s travel distance is represented by four colors. Each represents how far she can travel in 15 minutes (up to a total of 60 minutes) at different times on a weekday, Saturday, or Sunday. Her travel includes a combination of walking (at a walk speed of approximately 3 miles per hour) and taking transit. Transit choices are based on the lines currently shown on the map, including potential transfers.
The Jane Isochrone can also calculate demographic stats for each band in the isochrone feature. When you place Jane, she will calculate the jobs in each 15, 30, 45, and 60 minute band.
Users can add or remove demographics stats calculated by clicking the icon 'Choose demographics' (the bar graph) and starring the preferred demographics to be calculated. These demographics include the US Census Data that comes pre-loaded for our US customers, but also requested custom data layers/statistics to be added into Remix.
The isochrone methdology has two options.
1) Using the average (less specific): Jane's travel is based on 1/2 the headway at the given time before "riding" the bus. If a transfer is taken, we assume that Jane must again wait for half the headway of the next line. This methodology only uses "Pattern A" from the lines on your map.
2) Using the timetable (more specific): Jane's travel is based on actual trips in the Remix timetable for all lines and patterns on the map. This is useful if you're evaluating a corridor with multiple lines that have staggered headways. Another example is infrequent service where setting the trip departure time is important.
